Club history

From the '30s up until the '70s, the old scholars of C.B.C. played for Christian Brothers O.C., commonly known as C.B.O.C. (pronounced 'Seebok'). During this period and particularly in the later years, C.B.O.C. also catered for students from Rostrevor College and Sacred Heart College. Then in 1974 the name was changed to Rostrevor O.C., presumably reflecting the dominance of players coming from Rostrevor College. However, in the centenary year of C.B.C. school, 1978, the old scholars club was reformed, this time under the name of CBC Old Collegians F.C. It quickly gained promotion to A4 before dropping back to A5 in the mid ‘80s. In 1989 ex-West Torrens captain Aldo Floreani was appointed coach and in 1990 led the Club to its only A-grade premiership. Since that time the Club has regularly played finals but without securing further premiership success. The games record holder is Greg Cain with 332 games, and among the better players to have donned the purple and white is Paul Vance who won a staggering 6 A-grade best and fairest awards over only 9 seasons.

It was a brisk Wednesday morning at Dwight Reserve, Elizabeth Park, where volunteers could be spotted collecting rubbish and debris form the previous night; combing the grass and filling the bins for council rubbish collection.

I’m here to report on a phenomenon that has grown in momentum over the last few years through the hard work and dedication of committees and volunteers of many
